Join the New Castle Historical Society to explore New Castle’s supernatural side with a tour that guides you through darkened streets to hear macabre tales of hauntings, funeral customs, crime & punishment that span the 360-year history of this Delaware River town. You’ll also be invited inside the Amstel House – New Castle’s most haunted mansion!

Tours are about 75 minutes in length and will depart from The Arsenal.

This is an adult-oriented tour. For those interested in bringing children, we suggest that this tour has at least a PG-13 rating.

Visitor Center at the Arsenal and our Museum Store are now open:

Wednesday – Saturday 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

Sunday 11:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Historic Houses

The Amstel House & Dutch House are closed for the 2022 season.

Our historic gardens are currently open daily dawn to dusk.

Together, the houses cover over 300 years of history in New Castle. Two new exhibit rooms are open at the Amstel House – the kitchen bedchamber and the parlor bedchamber. The parlor bedchamber features a new, permanent exhibit on the owners and occupants of the house between 1790 and 1934, when the Historical Society was formed.
Tours are offered Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm and Sundays, noon to 4 pm. Tours begin at the top of each hour, with the last tour starting at 3 pm.
Tickets are available at the New Castle Visitor Center at the Arsenal.

Our historic gardens are open daily dawn to dusk.
